Aloha! My name is Sonia Fantz and I am so stoked to that you are using our site to help connect yourself with the support you need to make your move possible! I am a proud and die hard Cleveland-er with a love for art, music, people, science, and food! I grew up in a huge family, and I find comfort in organized chaos! attended the Ohio State University where I got my Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and Public Health. I spent my undergraduate career volunteering in the community, traveling the world, and learning more about human-kind. I have always been so thoroughly interested in the way our societal structures and evolution combine to create our modern world, and I talk about anthropology as often as I am allowed! As somebody who planned on being a doctor her entire life, I embraced a large change when I realized how much inequity exists in the education and healthcare sectors of our country. I just recently finished my first year teaching as part of the amazing 2019 Teach for America Hawaii corps on the island of Oahu. I teach Special Education and General Education High School Environmental science and Chemistry at Wai’anae High School, home of the Seariders’! I am in pursuit of my Master’s in Education from Johns Hopkins University. My personal interests include playing the Ukulele and the Piano, singing, drawing, swimming, and newly…computer programming! I value humility, open mindedness, creativity, and passion, which I try my best to translate to my students on the island! I am so excited to hear about the journey you are about to embark on - the island’s schools needs your educator experience and your big heart!!! I am here to help! :) Aloha! Hello! My name is Megan Nepshinsky and I’m wicked excited to be teaching 7th grade inclusion this year! I’m originally from Rhode Island (hence my use of the word “wicked” :) ) and my background is in Marine Biology. I earned degrees in Marine Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Rhode Island (2012) and an MSc in Marine and Environmental Biology from Nicholls State University in Louisiana (2017). As a graduate student at Nicholls State, I taught intro to biology labs, which opened my eyes as to what skills students needed to have coming in to successfully juggle their science courses in college. I moved out to O’ahu two summers ago (2017) as part of Teach For America and started teaching 7th grade math and science here at Wheeler. This is an amazing school, and I’m really looking forward to the academic year starting up again! A few interests I have include bird watching, computer programming, and playing the flute with the Wheeler band! I also really love going on hikes around the island, especially out to Kaena Point to see the albatross. I value kindness, honesty, hard work and growth mindsets and I hope to encourage your child to pursue what they’re passionate about this year! I am looking forward to getting to know you and your family this school year, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you ever have any questions or need anything! :)
